BAMsAway - The Big Y
The Big Y, also known as the Big D, is the largest Y chromosome analysis system available in North America. It uses a multiplex PCR to amplify Y-specific STRs (short tandem repeats), including the highly polymorphic DYS loci (DYS390, DYS439, DYS437, DYS448, DYS481, DYS389). It also tests for gender, sex and X chromosome, as well as other genetic conditions. It can be used with both paternity and maternity testing.
BAMsAway, the company's Chrome extension, allows customers to add SNPs or positions to the Big Y 'Unnamed Variants' list. It also adds them to the variant table (available only in the BAMsAway module). Customers can access those variants in the browser by clicking the SNPs or positions in the variant list. They can then access the information regarding each SNP in the browser. In the SNPs view, the user will be able to view the SNP information, such as the name and the position, the genotype, the genotyping result, as well as the data regarding the evidence in the literature.
